bloom-picayune, a DECstation 5000/25 server in W20-575A, had
corruption of its internal RZ25 disk this morning. The /etc
directory file was corrupted, and there were also some hard
errors toward the end of the disk (we have an rz2f partition
that covers the last several thousand blocks). We obtained this
error a few times (for different disk locations on rz2f):
RZ25 unit 2: harderr, SnsKey = MEDIUM ERROR, AddSnsCode = 0x12
LogBlkAddr = 829473, Dev = rz2f, SectNum = 8946
also
RZ25 unit 2: retryerr, SnsKey = HARDWARE ERROR, AddSnsCode = 0x9
LogBlkAddr = 829479, Dev = rz2f, SectNum = 8952
Also, running rzdisk -s over rz2 gave the following:
unrecoverable read error at (LBN = 829477)
unrecoverable read error with RETRIES at (LBN = 829480)
We believe this disk needs to be replaced. Could you please arrange
to get a new RZ25 for us? This is a server machine so we'll need
to arrange a time to swap in the replacement disk.
