Hello-
It is the responsibility of MIT's I/T Integration Process is to define an
enterprise technology architecture and to create a common computing
infrastructure. It is important that both the development and run time
environments be considered in these two tasks. The two environments must
work as a whole so that the development environment can effectively
leverage the run time infrastructure. At this time we are launching an
initiative to evaluate Java related technologies and their potential impact
to MIT's computing Infrastructure.
This project will likely last through December 1998 and represents only the
first phase of an effort to redefine MIT's software development
environment. Jonathan Ives, currently a member of the Integration Team,
will be the Project Leader; a formal request for other participants will be
made in the
coming weeks. The project's draft charter, e-mail and homepage are as follows:
E-mail: devtool-1998@mit.edu
Home Page: http://web.mit.edu/is/integration/projects/devtool-1998
Charter:
http://web.mit.edu/is/integration/projects/devtool-1998/charter.html
We assume that many MIT software developers will be interested in the
progress of this project and may want to provide input or feedback
independent of whether they are team members. Therefore I am mailing this
to a wide audience and suggest that you forward it to MIT people whom you
think may be interested.
Regards
Susan
Director of I/T Integration
