The Laboratory for Computer Science
has the following open jobs:
Research Staff Positions:

LCS is undertaking a major restructuring of central computing services
and network infrastructures. It is also committed to bringing
high-speed broadband networks to Laboratory desktops within two years.
The Laboratory operates over five hundred computers, including DEC,
SUN, HP, and Apple Macintoshes and some massively parallel machines.
NETWORK SPECIALIST for Computing Resource Services to support LCS
research groups. The Network Specialist's primary responsibility
includes all tasks necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the
networks within the Lab. Other responsibilities include writing and
maintaining Domain Name Service software and maintaining network news
and electronic mail on central machines. Applicants should have a BS
in CS or related field and at least two years direct or related
experience. Requires extensive UNIX exp.--including system
administration, C/TeX/Emacs, and networking--and the ability to
interact well with people. Central computing staff are expected to
work closely with technical staff in other research groups within the
Laboratory. Knowledge of the Appletalk network protocol is helpful.
Previous network design exp., including FDDI and ATM, is highly
desirable. JOB NUMBER R93-031
SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER/ADMINISTRATOR for Computing Resource Services to
support LCS research groups within the Laboratory. The Systems
Programmer/Administrator's primary responsibilities include all tasks
necessary to ensure the smooth operation of central computing
resources and the coordination and development of laboratory-wide
information services. Applicants should have a BS in CS or related
field and at least two years direct or related experience. The
position requires extensive UNIX experience, especially system
administration, and C/TeX/Emacs and networking. The ability to
interact well with people is essential; Macintosh experience is a big
plus. Central computing staff are expected to work very closely with
technical staff in other research groups within the Lab. JOB NO. R93-032
TECHNICAL MANAGER for Computing Resource Services to support LCS
research groups. The Technical Manager will provide leadership for
the Computing Resource Services group, coordinate with other technical
staff within the Laboratory for end user support, and investigate and
bring in new information technology to meet the diverse computing
needs of the various research groups. The Manager will also act as
liaison with other MIT computing organizations and outside vendors.
The Manager will also coordinate the Laboratory's high-speed broadband
networks project. Applicants should have a Master's degree in CS or
related field and at least three years direct or related experience.
The position requires extensive UNIX experience--including system
administration, C/TeX/Emacs, and networking--and the ability to
interact well with people. Central computing staff are expected to
work closely with technical staff in other research groups within the
Laboratory. Experience supervising others is necessary. JOB NO. R93-030
SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER/ADMINISTRATOR for Theory Group to ensure smooth
operation of the group's 50 Sun workstations, server, 10 X-terminals,
IBM PC compatibles, and several Macintoshes. Responsibilities include
keeping software up-to-date, identifying and correcting hardware and
software problems, ordering and installing new equipment, organizing
backup and recovery procedures, writing new software utilities and
assisting users. The individual is expected to work closely with the
laboratory's central computing support group and with technical staff
in other laboratory research groups. Requirements include extensive
Sun UNIX experience, including system administrative experience,
C/TeX/Emacs experience and the ability to interact well with people.
JOB NUMBER R93-016
X SOFTWARE ENGINEER with X toolkit exp. to be part of a small team
developing and maintaining the X Window System through the end of
1993. Responsibilities include maintenance and enhancement of the Xt
Intrinsics and a number of applications and tools, as well as
participation in the design of Xt-related standards. BA or equiv.
required, at least one year's experience programming with the X Window
System using the C language and an Intrinsics-based toolkit; good
communication skills; self-start motivation; and the ability to work

X SERVER SOFTWARE ENGINEER to work in the MIT X Consortium to develop,
optimize, and enhance the X Window System server software. The
position involves all areas of the X server plus interrelated
