                       Unix Systems Programmer

MIT's Information Systems group seeks two individuals to join a team 
which develops and maintains the base Unix software for more than a 
thousand Unix workstations and 200 servers distributed throughout our 
campus. Together with a number of other professional staff, these two 
individuals will be a part of our efforts to continue the evolution of 
MIT's distributed computing environment, based on the advances made 
earlier by Project Athena.  These workstations and servers provide a 
vast array of services such as electronic mail, messaging and access to 
information resources, to students, faculty and administrators at MIT. 

Primary tasks will include designing, coding, debugging, testing, 
maintaining and documenting Unix systems and applications software.  

Candidates should have experience in large-scale Unix environments, UNIX 
BSD/System V/POSIX software engineering. TCP/IP networking, using C, and 
have demonstrated good interpersonal, organizational, oral and written 
communications skills.

Technical understanding of MIT's Project Athena, MIT's Kerberos, Ultrix, 
SunOS 4.1.1, AIX 3.1, OSF/1, OSF/DCE and AFS is desirable.  Familiarity 
with the needs of university communities is also desirable.

computer science plus 5 years of significant experience with Unix 
systems software, or an equivalent combination of education and

UNIX Systems Programmer:  if you have a bachelor's degree in computer 
science plus 2 years of experience with Unix systems software, reference 
Job No. A92-101.
