I will be giving a talk on "Z39.50" on Wednesday October 2
in e40-382 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon.
This thing called Z39.50 (pronounced: zee thirty nine dot fifty) is an
information retrieval protocol.
People are interested in using it so that lots of different information
users and information providers can all talk to each other using a
common protocol rather than having to invent special code for every new
database and client.
My talk will tell you a little bit about the protocol:
Where it came from.
Where it's going.
Who should care.
Where we should go with it.
There will be time for questions.
If you are interested in providing information over the network, or
interested in writing programs to fetch information over the network,
you should come to this talk.
