I said _states_. Hawaii became a state in 1959-60.

Balloons carrying incendiaries.
Likewise, where I once lived, Goleta, CA, was shelled by a Japanese sub.
In any case, these latter incidents occurred _after_ the start of the war.
Hardly an example of a U.S. state being attacked.
