Anyway, the history that Jim advances simply didn't happen. Eric had nothing
to do with the moderation decision. He wasn't even subscribed to the list
anymore at that time. Sandy Sandfort proposed a month long trial of
moderating the list after utterly off-topic, immature, and inflammatory
(even for Cypherpunks...) posts made by individuals who's sanity has been
widely questioned began flooding the list. John, as the list owner, agreed
to the moderation experiment. It didn't even last a month. After Sandy
failed to forward a libelous post to either the mailing list for "approved"
_or_ "rejected" posts, Sandy gave up his role as moderator. The experiment
was over. Meanwhile, some of the CDR nodes had been set up since John had
threatened to no longer host the list on toad.com.
Nor is it true that the moderation experiment effectively killed the list.
Many key subscribers had already left by that time, since they weren't
willing to filter through the increasingly irrational posts that had begun
to dominate the traffic on the list.
