10:30pm, March 27, 1999, Pentagon announced that the pilot of a downed
F-117A has been rescued. That's impressive! If I were terminally cynical
I would say that the F-117 was in fact pilotless. A drone delivered by
remote control (or maybe dropped by a B-52!) onto the Serbs for the
purpose of disinformation. Radio and transponder frequencies and
interrogation codes should be suspect. Everything on the package should
be suspect. Pictures on CNN showed an airplane surprisingly intact. I
saw pictures of the one that crashed in Baltimore, MD. It shattered like
brittle plastic.
No, never mind. I'm being idiotically cynical. The Serbs got a trophy
and our guys performed heroically, far above and beyond the call of
duty. Outstanding.
