Someone here earlier referenced a book called 'We' by Yevgeni Zamyatin (written
in the early '20s), and I read it. This society lives in glass houses, always
visible to each other. The only time they put down the shades is when they
receive conjugal visits, for the time permitted. Not to give away the ending,
but by the end of the story they don't even bother with the shades.
