(Sorry for any duplicates. I am cc:ing the "cypherpunks@toad.com" site as
well as the site I usually send to, as I'm not certain what the current
directional connectivity is between toad and the other sites. And I suspect
some of these "remove" folks are getting traffic from toad.)
A recent surge of these kinds of messages:

I don't know where these "remove" ideas come from...maybe people are just
seeing one person doing it and are imitating them, monkey see, monkey do.
We used to get "unsuscrive" and "unsribe" messages, so I guess this is an
improvement.
Whatever, here are a few tips on unsubscribing.
1. Find out which list you are on. This might be the list originating at
cyberpass.net, or maybe algebra.com, or maybe einstein.ssz.com. Some of
you may even be subscribed to cypherpunks@toad.com. It is important that
you know which site is sending you traffic because only _that_ site can
turn off the tap for you. (Look for the site which is actually sending you
the messages, not necessarily the site from which a particular message was
relayed. For example, I am mailing this to the "cypherpunks@cyberpass.net"
site, but you may be subscribed to the "cypherpunks@algebra.com" or
"cypherpunks@toad.com" site.)
2. For most sites (maybe all, I haven't checked), the program "majordomo"
is used to process list requests. This is a robotic responder, with no
human processing commands.
3. The address to send commands to would be of this form:
majordomo@algebra.com
or
majordomo@cyberpass.net
etc.
4. In the message body are the commands for major. A typical command would be:
unsubscribe cypherpunks
5. You may be asked to confirm your unsubscribe request. This is meant to
stop malicious folks from unsubscribing others. Instructions will be in the
confirmation request.
6. This should work. If majordomo cannot process your request, it will
usually send you a list of commands and a brief explanation.
That about does it. I am including my "subscription help" alternate .sig
below. It covers the same basic material, but may be helpful to some.
Please don't ask persons reading this list to unsubscribe. We generally
can't, or won't. If you cannot understand these issues, you never should
have subscribed to the Cypherpunks list in the first place!
Have a nice day,

The Cypherpunks list began in 1992. It is now run in a distributed
set of several lists, cross-linked to ensure continuity. Volume can
range from 20 to 40 messages a day, sometimes even more if a an
important news event is being discussed.
Various archives of messages to the list may be found by using
search engines.
To subscribe to one of the "Cypherpunks" lists: Send a message to
_one_ of these addresses:
majordomo@cyberpass.net
majordomo@algebra.com
with the body message consisting only of:
subscribe cypherpunks
Unsubscribing is done by sending a message to the site one
subscribed to with the body message of:
unsubscribe cypherpunks
