snooping around my computer is one thing. but imagine the future: your
house is wired, from tv to phone to the doorbell, everything is
electronically controlled. that's not scifi, I know a few people who
already have part of this set up in their homes (and it IS convenient
when the room temperature rises a few degrees half an hour before you
get up).

there's a deep secret in 1984 - the tv is the device of surveilance. the
most common, most usual device. not something mysterious and secretive.
