In October, Peacefire ("dare you to have an opinion before your 18th
birthday") made a program available on our Web site called "CPCrack" at
http://www.peacefire.org/download/cpcrack.exe
which can be used to decode the password for Cyber Patrol for Windows.
I was wondering if there are any Mac users on cypherpunks (there's gotta be
at least one :-) ) who could help port the program to the Macintosh.
Cyber Patrol's encryption algorithm is a simple combination of XOR's and
bitwise rotation; the entire algorithm, and how to reverse it, is described at
http://www.peacefire.org/bypass/Cyber_Patrol/
What we really need help with from a Mac user is to (1) determine where on
the Mac operating system the Cyber Patrol password is actually stored, (2)
get some plaintext/ciphertext pairs, to give to us so we can determine if
the "encryption" algorithm for the Mac is the same as it is for Windows,
which I'm pretty sure it is, and (3) change one function call in CPCrack so
that it will work on the Macintosh. Unfortunately Peacefire is run by a
very small number of people and none of us happened to have any real
Macintosh expertise.
