A friend noted that while the phone cos were required 
by law to send you a letter telling you how to NOT send your
phone no. out (when Pac Bell turned that 'feature' on so they
could sell caller-id features), they NO LONGER
send such notices when you move. 

Therefore, more and more sheeple send their phone
no. out on the line, since the default is to "opt in".

Mighty convenient practice for Pac Bell, eh?
