and intel-based systems will have kernel-patches available to take that
"feature" out within a few hours, I bet.

most probably. sparc machines worked that way for centuries. palmpilots
have unique "hotsync-id"s (that get installed by the windows-software,
obviously. my palm never connected to a windows machine and does not
seem to have this id. as a result, a couple of shareware-programs have
run "registered" out of the box - which should send a screaming warning
bell to the fools betting their profit on such a mechanism!).
