John King, a current CIA employee, has a Web site
for intelligence jokes called Covert Comic. There was
a report about him in the New York Daily News yesterday:
http://jya.com/cia-comic.htm
After browsing his site we had a talk with John (got
his tel num from Internic) who said he's being hassled
by the security folks at the Agency for his site and
may be treated more harshly at some point. And has his
lawyer on standby in case shit happens.
John thinks he has a right to maintain his Web site and
believes in broader freedom of information, especially
jokes about intelligence and spooks -- the higher the office
in intel the more deserving the ridicule due to the muckies
overweening ambition and coziness with the media for
personal gain while sicking the security dogs on underlings
who try the same.
He says he offers his comedy for pay but promises to donate
the proceeds to deserving non-profits such as Amnesty
and Human Rights Watch.
He assures that he's loyal to the US and would never reveal
classified information, not even jokes that are classified,
though he claims he's never heard any.
