Dear Trader,
Here is a summation of what happened last week in the markets.
In economic news this week, the Commerce Department reported November
business inventories rose 0.4%; analysts were expecting inventories to rise
0.3%. At 8:15 a.m. CST, the Federal Reserve released its December industrial
production and capacity utilization report. Production rose 0.2% and capacity
utilization was 80.9%. March U.S. T-bond futures closed sharply lower today,
driven for the most part by strength in the U.S. equity market. Financial futures
closed early today ahead of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday.
The March T-bond closed 24/32 lower at 126 17/32.
The dollar was buoyed by the Brazil central bank's decision to let its formerly
pegged real to float freely, in a bid to protect its foreign exchange reserves.
The decision alleviated the pressure on the real, which rebounded from a low
of 1.60 per dollar to close at 1.45.
