That's obvious. If clinton screws China, we would
lose our sources of cheap goods and labour. Ball point
pens would shoot up to $10 a piece and calculators
would cost $300. Just another example of the two
faced power mongers - all foreign policy is purely
based on how it can benifit the US government - no
question of human rights, political attitude of the
other country, or their economic record.

I am not suggesting anything of that sort. What I am
saying is that there is no religious freedom in China.
You will land up in jail if you try any sort of
worship or religious seminars or discussions, be it
Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist.
We can only
be thankful it's not as bad as in the Arab nations
- prime example : Saudi Arabia. In Saudi, you are
not even allowed to bring in philosophical books
with a religious flavour other than islam. All
religious material (pictures, books, cassettes,
etc) not related to islam is banned. They confiscate
your stuff at the airport. Women are not allowed to
be seen unless they cover themselves up completely.
Something like being in a sack. Here again, the USG
supports them simply because Saudi is a source of
cheap oil. What else? Why even talk of human rights
- something that is totally absent in these countries.
I myself had a pretty bad experience when visiting
Saudi. I had a small booklet of buddhist sayings,
which was a present from a friend. At the Jeddah
airpoprt, they threatened me with imprisonment if
I took it inside the country. Suffices to say that
I would never again make the mistake of visiting
such barbaric countries.
