I have wondered from time to time how long a speed camera would last
in the US. I spent some time travelling around Texas, California etc
and sign-posts where peppered with bullet holes, cacti near the road
also.
So I had thought that if the police put up a speed camera, it would
need some heavy duty armor plating, otherwise it would make a real
tempting target for your average red-neck impromptu target shooter.
A paintball gun occurred to me also, or presumably a shot-gun fired at
the lens would mess it up quite well. Or more laboriously perhaps a
pipe cutter, or shaped plastique around the pole the camera is mounted
on.
Doesn't happen that often in the UK that I know of, but I'd have
thought in the US with the amount of rifles, shotguns etc mounted on
pickup racks that the chances of this happening would be much higher.
