Would someone care to respond to the following Software Suggestion?

[2035] daemon@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (Richard J. Barbalace) Athena Software Suggestions 05/24/97 23:02 (26 lines)
Subject: copying files onto floppies

More people would use floppy disks more and have quota problems less
if copying files onto disks wasn't so frustrating. The should be a
way to say "Look, I got this unix directory tree. Just put the whole
damn thing onto the floppy disk as is, dammit."

Specific features of such a command would be:
1) Formating the disk if necessary.
2) Preserving long filenames.
3) Being really easy to use.

My dream command would be used like this:
% copydammit thesis a:
or
% copydammit a:thesis .

No options needed. No errors. No stupid questions. No headaches.

This shouldn't be too much to ask for.

+ Richard
PS: The OLC stock answers give a list of directions for copying
directories, but it's too complicated and doesn't work.
