1. Release status
8.1.3 went out 6/2
minor corrections to sis, possibly dan's bug fixes will get
rolled into 8.1.4 and released soon
we have a report of performance problems on SGI, and would like
to ask testers to watch for high load or slow machines
Early is scheduled for June 10. At this point, we expect to go.
Dot is sending mail to the early test machine contact list.
jweiss and ghudson may do some space shuffling and creative pointing
of packs to make it all work.
2. Bruce has provided an optional parameter on htmlview so that people
can specify that the site/pages require certificates/SSL.
htmlview -c URL
Note: if htmlview is invoked with an https: URL, it "knows"
certificates/SSL are required.
3. installers -- miki, jonathon, and greg are working on changing the
installers to solaris 2.5.1 This will be coordinated with general
release of Athena 8.1 this summer.
4. Solaris patch levels. At this point, while we are going to review
the list of patches and the output of the tool which jhawk
suggested, we are probably going to hold off on redoing the set of
installed patches unless there is something seen as critical.
5. Roundtable tidbits
-Bill is still talking to SGI about gr2.a
-r5000 upgrade kits are very inexpensive.
-Dot has run many of the 3rd party programs which might have been
affected by the change in SGI from 8 to 24 bit color, but does not
expect to be able to run all of them before release. We consider the
risk acceptable.
-Jonathon points out that some of the mkserv services may have broken
in the change to Solaris 2.5.1. Probably working: remote, discuss.
Unknown: print. Likely to be broken: knfs, bootp.
