I did teh SGI patch release at about 9:45 tonight. Un fortunately, it
being spring break there were a lot more free machine than there would
be normally. Things were kindof hosed for the next 30-45 minutes.
The bottleneck appeared to be nyx. This is unsurprising, since it
contains teh only copy of the (540M) sgi install volume which all
updating SGIs had to track. Unfortunatelyreplicating this is
something we'd rather not do for space reasons. since we have a
release desync-ing mechanism in 8.1, I don't think this will really be
a problem.
Interesting things noticed suring the update:
When machines attempted to copy in new kernels and bootblocks near the
end of the release they reported that these things didn't exist for
this machine. I suspect this is not as serious as it sounds, but I'd
appreciate confirmation of that.
