1. Discussion of SGI varsity pack plus. Alex explained that there is
quite a bit of pressure from faculty to get the latest and greatest
versions of software on the SGI. We discussed the difficulties of
rebuilding the "golden disk" procedure (lack of personnel, long manual
process, etc.) and problems with using inst on our current system. We
talked about the possibility of "hand hacking" a very small number of
packages into working with the current system instead of trying to
rebuild the whole system.

Alex mentioned as desirable the Java Development Kit, Open GL
libraries, Open Inventor 2.1.1 (which requires a kernel patch), cosmo
code, prodev workshop, etc.

Action Items:
wdc will contact Charles Marker (SGI personnel) to see if they can
help.

Alex will provide limited list of really needed packages.

wdc and mbarker will consider resource questions (e.g. would it make
sense to hire vrt to help with this? can we do anything in the
remaining time?)

2. 8.0K is on track
3. 8.1 - in solaris 2.5, mwm is gone.

Action Item:
The release team will think about and discuss the window manager
policy at a later time.

4. Quick Review of the release order.

Action Item:
mbarker will make a copy and update it. See:

file://localhost/afs/athena.mit.edu/astaff/project/release/R8.1/release.html

Decision:
We will use one release order to track both Sun and SGI this time,
because we believe they will stay fairly close.
