Actually I had been wondering... Doesn't one of the sendmail files
associated with the mail contain the pid of the sendmail process that
is supposed to be worrying about the mail? If so, just see if there's
a process matching the pid of each mail message, and if not clean it
up. This is unlikely to fail if you run it every hour because pids
typically take a lot longer than that to wrap around.
