Hi Erik,

The Athena login process does not auto-generate any user profiles on log
in; accounts are created when you first arrive at MIT. There is no
database or user settings that is updated at login time, and we don't
involve web applications at any step of this process, so I don't think
anything about how the Athena login process works will help you.

For technical details about the current Athena infrastructure, take a look
at
   http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/wiki/HowAthenaWorks
and other links on http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/wiki/. If you are
designing a web-based application, all of this information should be
completely irrelevant to you.
