Dear Quickprint Maintainers,

As you're no doubt aware, Pharos is here. Over the remainder of this summer, we're going to be deploying Pharos to the remainder of the clusters and the dorms. With the deployment of Pharos, we're going to be phasing out the individual print queues for Pharos printers from the GUI print dialogs on Debathena, in favor of the "mitprint" print queue, which is configured to spool directly to Pharos, bypassing the CUPS servers. That is, instead of printing to "bias" or "savion", you'll print to "mitprint". (The old queue names will continue to work for command-line printing in the interim.)

It would be great if quickprint followed suit, since the old queue names will be removed eventually. We can send you periodic updates about which queues are converting and when. In the meantime, if you want to add an "mitprint" queue (we find using the hpijs pcl3 HP9050 driver works best) for Pharos, that would be great.

We would also prefer it if users who want to print to Pharos from Windows or Mac set up their own local queues, rather that setting up quickprint as a printer, since Pharos duplicates a lot of quickprint's original intended functionality (set up one queue, then pick up job at any printer). Obviously, you're free to do whatever you want, but we'd prefer it if http://quickprint.mit.edu/faq/ipp encouraged people to visit http://mit.edu/printing/pharos first.

-Jon
