"We're also taking this opportunity to switch to Dynamic Kernel Module Support (DKMS) for OpenAFS on distributions that support it (Lucid, Maverick, Natty, Lenny, and Squeeze). DKMS takes care of automatically building new kernel modules when you install a new kernel, ensuring that your workstation will always have OpenAFS. DKMS rebuilds kernel modules after a new kernel is installed, or upon reboot after installing a new kernel. DKMS also takes care of rebuilding a kernel module for users who build their own custom kernels."

Around 3pm that day, I'd like to push everything openafs-related to production, to give us time to ensure the 4pm and 6pm autodebathenificator runs are happy. I'll then send the mail below (which does not include release-announce, as you can see). I will send the beta and release messages there, however.

Network-based installation will be available shortly, but for now the supported installation method is to install Ubuntu Natty (11.04) and then use the install-debathena.sh script available from http://debathena.mit.edu. At this point, we believe all the major metapackages except debathena-cluster are installable. If you do participate in testing, please subscribe to the testers@mit.edu mailing list (https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/testers) and send your testing-related questions and feedback to that list.

DKMS takes care of automatically building new kernel modules when you install a new kernel. This may make the first reboot after installing a new kernel a little slower, but ensures that the OpenAFS kernel module will always be available, even if you build your own kernels.
