Greeetings,

You are receiving this e-mail because you (high-council@mit.edu) are
currently listed as a contact for the Athena workstation
ASSASSIN.MIT.EDU. This workstation is currently running Athena 9.4.55.

IP Address: 18.187.0.85 Location: W20-447

IS&T is beginning the process of ramping down support for Athena 9.4.
Support for Athena 9.4 workstations will end on October 8, 2010. After
that date, IS&T will only be providing support for Debathena
workstations.

While you can continue to run Athena 9.4 on an "as-is" basis after
October 8, we strongly encourage you to upgrade to Debathena. Debathena
is the latest evolution of the Athena computing environment, and
provides many new features and new levels of compatibility and
flexibility.

For more information on the end of support for Athena 9, as well as
instructions on upgrading to Debathena, please see:
http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/oAVt

Note: We have transitioned away from the old annual fee based model for
private Athena workstations. Private Athena workstations are now very
similar to running a Windows or Mac computer in your department. You
can purchase a standard Dell desktop and install Debathena on it using
our instructions, and run it at no annual fee. We no longer offer
on-site installation help for departmental machines, but the
instructions are easy to follow and Athena Consulting will be able to
help you remotely if you are installing the Debathena cluster software
on a recommended Dell desktop.

Cordially,

Jonathan Reed IS&T Athena Release Team
