I decided I would try to run a barnowl screen on there (on my standard
justification that I don't test things I don't force myself to use), and
got:
ringworld:~ geofft$ screen
Directory '/var/run/screen' must have mode 777.
I know that this issue is dealt with in the debathena-linerva initscript;
you probably want to be running some variant of that package, because it
has a fair number of hacks for similar issues.
