As part of the process of updating debathena-printing-config (the
command-line lpr etc. wrapper) to do something sane in the CUPS world,
Evan and I are thinking that we should replace the code that uses
.generation to set LPROPT=-Zduplex for LPRng with code to configure the
equivalent for CUPS (e.g. as described in Trac: #449).
The reasoning is that .generation is really intended for cluster printers,
and if ~all the cluster printers are now CUPS, we don't care quite as much
about not defaulting to duplex on other LPRng queues. This change
would let us assume that any $LPROPT is the user's explicit intention,
which simplifies certain parts of the code.
We figured we'd check with release-team first -- does no longer setting
$LPROPT in response to .generation sound reasonable?
