Community Milestones Met:
Other Accomplishments:
* wdc and andersk found and crafted fixes for a raft of problems with
VMware tools under Ubuntu 8.10.
* tabbott ran a hackathon that made the technical changes necessary
for the athena10/debathena merge.
* jdreed crafted the debathena.mit.edu/beta web site that will become
the user first contact with Debathena.
* jdreed crafted appropriate publicity for Early cluster systems:
Cluster poster for door, system poster, and a help doc to place near
each system.
* rbasch resolved ATN-39: logout in gnome terminal (Blocker to
Production)
* rbasch resolved ATN-27 "Log Out" button on gnome-screensaver
sometimes doesn't work
* wdc opened upstream bugs for some things we're working around.
* rbasch opened upstream bug for ATN-27
* amb shepherded athena10.mit.edu IP address change.
* amb made refinements to debathena-thirdparty package
* amb made refinements to Athena 10 installer script.
* jdreed migrated Athena 10 stock answers to hermes.
* alexp did much testing.
* broder made changes to machtype and athinfo to make it display
relevant Athena 10 info.

superfluous stuff.
NEW: wdc and jdreed shepherd final debug of debathena-thirdparty
NEW: tabbott changes counterlog to more broadly report debathena
installs to wslogger.
Next Community Milestone(s):
Athena 10 Early Cluster deployment re-targeted for Wed 4 March 2009.
Patch release as needed.
Issues:
The procedure for adding another suite to Athena 10 is "rarely
performed, and the infrastructure for it is imperfect."
Linux has standardized on the bash command shell, not the tcsh command
shell heretofore the Athena Standard. After much discussion and having
tested full support of bash, the default shell for newly created Athena
accounts should change from tcsh to bash starting on or about January 1,
2009. (Rememeber to notify athena-rcc of the change when it happens.)
Key learnings:
Additional comments:
Athena Monthly machine counts:
Method: On install, machines get a unique ID. Each day every system
reports its existence to a central syslog. This method over-counts
systems installed multiple times. Systems running Athena than 9.0 or
earlier are not counted.

Monthly Athena Login counts:
Method: By reviewing of the logs of the service that makes
personalized notifications to users at login time, we are able to count
the number of unique Athena logins. Here we display the total number of
logins over a four week period, the number of logins by unique user ID
and the median number of logins per unique user ID.
