Our next meeting is scheduled for: Tuesday 24 February at 1:30
in room W91-250.

Action:

1. Check-ins on Action Items

jdreed: What is the list of users affected by low UIDs or GIDs?
	Cutoff is 2000.

jdreed: Where are we in crafting the merged Athena apt repository
write access guidelines? jdreed will ping for bullet points. tabbott
will try and send some.

jdreed: What is status of switching default shell to bash?

jweiss: Any update on Ops's take on the Athena Dialups Situation?

2. Questions for team to review:

* Are we going to disable the chroot environment for Early?
The alternative is re-implementing the old Athena Reactivate and verify.
jweiss representing Ops strongly advocates having some cleanup working
before Early.

* Are we going to do some early installs after today's meeting?
No.
We want to spend a couple days trying to fix the CD/USB problem, and
to roll out the 2-line fix for the switch user hangup.

* Can we implement backward compatibility support of the setup command
as a tcsh-only interface so that alexp doesn't have to create a new
user-visible approach to lockers? Yes. And we believe we can do this
for Athena 10 only. The exposure would be for new students with bash as
their default shell using an Athena 9 system in September.

* debathena/athena10 repo merge issues:

What about packages that we don't consider part of the release? If they
become moribund, Release Team might end up on the hook for security
patches. This is a corner case of existing package life-cycle
management. Release Team is constantly adding and retiring packages.
A "conflicts" directive in a metapackage will force uninstall a package
if necessary.

SIPB would like to establish that the workstation metapackage can be
installed with only Free software components. (Cluster clearly pulls in
proprietary software.) This seems reasonable.

3. Punch List to Athena 10 Early Cluster go-live:

jdreed has picked the candidate 20 systems. We need to hurry up and
deploy to them!

Punch List to Athena 10 go-live (9 items):
     Comprehensive installer: Done
Create debathena-thirdparty package: Needs testing. Re-labeled as
not a blocker.
     ATN-1 Improved session names: Done.
     ATN-4 Greeter cosmetics: Done.
ATN-13 Fix X configuration: What do we do with new X server? wdc
and amb will resolve.
ATN-19 "Switch User" renders Public system un-usable. Designing
fix. Expedite roll out 2 line fix.
     ATN-20 USB and CD don't work in LVM chroot. It's a hald-dbus
communication. Could go to Early with this broken, but un-desirable.

Targeting go-live of Early Cluster Tuesday Feb 10. (Will know better
Friday.)

Issues going forward:

Have we made a good tradeoff of longer install time for faster program
start-up?

4. Monthly Status Report

Sent under separate cover.
