If you set "FlexibleXServers=0" in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf, it will disable the
Switch User functionality, by popping up an error message saying that the
limit of flexible X servers has been reached. This should be enough to
prevent cluster machines from becoming unusable if someone hits Switch
User by mistake from either the logout window or the screen saver. (The
error dialog pops up under the screen saver, so it appears to fail
silently.)
It's suboptimal that the buttons are still present, but I'll check in this
change if we don't come up with a way to remove the buttons entirely by
Tuesday.
