Beta testing for Athena Release 8.0 on the SGI platform is scheduled to
begin on July 2nd. (Beta test maps roughly into what previous releases
called "friendly test".) You are currently listed as the contact for the
following workstation(s) which are slated to take the release:

If you are not the correct contact or do not wish to take the release,
please contact me (dot@mit.edu) as soon as possible. On behalf of the
release team, I strongly encourage you to take the release and to
participate in the testing process. As a beta tester, we ask that you
use your beta test machine and report any bugs or changes in behavior,
no matter how minor.
What's in Release 8.0?
----------------------
Here are the major changes included in release 8.0 for the SGI platform.
* Irix 5.3 with AFS 3.4a
* Emacs 19.30 is the default
* Transcript 4.1
* MIME support has been built into MH but is turned off in
the default environment.
* Numerous bug fixes
A detailed message will be sent to all beta testers prior to the
release.
