Reminder:
Athena Release Team Meeting this Wednesday 19 November @ 3 in W92-106A
Agenda (as established at 5 November meeting):
1. Review Athena 10 status and gap to go-live.
Milestones: No new milestones completed.
Installer: amb is working on it.
ASO issues: Need a mirror for ubuntu apt repository so we can do
the blackout of disruptive updates: 30-40 GB of disk.
Initial mirror needed by IAP. High availability needed later
when large numbers of systems pound on it as they simultaneously
update.
JIRA Issues:
ATN-7: Logging root commands: Desupport: because we run Athena 10
in a chroot, and it requires hacking upstream source.
ATN-3: Setting volume to 0 on cluster machines: It will go into
reactivate.
ATN-6: Lynx/infoagents setup is resolved. (wdc will update jira)
2. Discuss Athena 10 documentation, specifically printer support.
LPRng would inquire about printer configs given a printer name.
CUPS wants to enumerate all printers as if they were local.
Athena 10 configures the local cupsd to enumerate all printers served
up via the print server cups.mit.edu
For now, we will document alexp's printing clue into PWOG and use
cups.mit.edu.
We expect a future cups.mit.edu may evolve from the SIPB prototype.
Longer term we need to think hard about improving the printer
discovery interface. Bill is working printing from the ISDA
side.
3. Discuss Firefox 3 for Athena 9.4.
We should do this ASAP, especially since FF3 is canon for Athena 10.
Target deployment for late December after finals.
We really want to minimize the amount of overlap between FF2 and FF3
because going back and forth is bad.
4. Discuss Post-term Patch release, specifically Screen power saving.
Tabled to next meeting.
5. Update on Solaris Sunset effort.
Sunburn, the Solaris Install development server died.
It contains the WANBoot prototype.
We can salvage hardware to re-create it.
Pushing WANBoot out to production is not necessary at this time.
Keeping Sunburn and the prototype up is necessary.
wdc/sml/gettes need to wake Owls team up about this.
6. Other
alexp needs the nitty gritty details to craft the third party
software metapackage(s): alexp will produce a list of the
packages, grouping them like he has them grouped in
"What Runs Where." amb will email alexp with the exact format.
sub-dividing the athena-cluster-software metapackage:
separate big things kept for completeness from those things that
are widely useful to enable individuals to get a good baseline
without waiting a long time for installs of unwanted big things.
Support for Exchange: People using Athena Evolution when their
mailbox is in Exchange currently will lose. What can we do?
Does username.mail.mit.edu hesiod info work with exchange?
A common mail server interface to both IMAP and Exchange is
required to get this to work.
Meeting dates: There is a conflict with a jweiss wed 2-3:30
meeting, and with the bi-weekly Identity Management meeting.
Bill will work out the meeting date with pbh.
----
Agenda for next meeting:
Move our meeting to December 10.
Decide next week about December 17th and following meetings.

2. Review Athena 10 status and gap to go-live.
3. Monthly Status Report
4. Discuss Post-term Patch release, specifically Screen power saving.
5. Discuss lert: Is it still needed or can we de-comission it.
6. Update on Solaris Sunset effort.
