Hi folks,

There seems to be something wrong with libGL.so (specifically,
/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 and /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.fgl.so.1.2) on
Dell 745's that breaks 3d graphics.

Steps to reproduce:

Build the Cone C++ VTK example following instructions in
/mit/vtkit_v5.0/README.to-run. The compilation runs without error
but the binary segfaults.

Run the current Mathematica (add math; mathematica), choose Help ->
Documentation Center, when that opens pick Data Visualization under
Visualization and Graphics, then pick ListSurfacePlot3D and execute
the two commands to draw the 3d bunny by copying and pasting them into
the command window, using shift-return to execute each
command. Mathematica will crash with a segfault after executing the
second command.

Both these work normally on the older HP-Compaq machines. Furthermore, when
I remove /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1, /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 and
/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.fgl.so.1.2
on the 745, and make the following links:

/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 -> /afs/athena.mit.edu/software/mesa_v501/.lib.i386_rh9/libGL.so.1.4.501

/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2

the examples work on the 745 (the libGL.so.1.4.501 in the mesa_v501 locker
is and old mesa version of libGL.so I built quite a while ago when a similar
problem came up).

Could someone please look into this and try to fix it? Not having working
Mathematica 3d graphics is a substantial problem.

                                             Thanks,

                                                   Alex
