Release 8 problem on my Sun

At some point yesterday, my Sun was in the state of "Unable to run Xlogin"
and the console login prompt appeared.
We checked the line, "/etc/athena/version" and it showed a version number
older than 8.0.
We then tried to update manually. At the point where we entered,
"/srvd/update_ws reactivate" a message came back saying that we already had
the update. We continued the procedure to the end, however after some
other status messages appeared, the final message was "Unable to run
Xlogin" and the console login prompt appeared again.
