Hi Greg,

First off, thanks a lot for getting VMWare player into the release- hopefully
the configuration glitches weren't too much work to sort out.

I've been thinking about the upcoming Ubuntu-Athena release, and have some
requests that would make installing many of the applications I maintain
easier.

What I most need are a variety of libraries and development tools,
mostly math and graphics-related, that for whatever reasons haven't
been in the release so far. I've been playing around with Ubuntu and
notice that almost every one that I use is somewhere in the
repositories, which seem quite a bit more extensive than the RHEL
ones. I don't know if that makes it relatively easy to include them in
the release or not but I suspect that it may. The more of these we
can include the better, subject to practical constraints.

Off the top of my head, this includes things like atlas, blas, lapack,
boost, gsl, gmp, fftw, itpp, qhull, cln, lpsolve, glpk, ginac,
wxwidgets, cairo, glitz, mono, clisp, gfortran, vtk, cmake, ant.

It would also be very helpful to have vlc, mplayer and/or xine, with as many
non-proprietary codecs as are available. As I had mentioned a while back,
getting media players installed outside the release is pretty painful
due to all the dependencies.

I don't know if it's already been looked into, but accelerated graphics drivers
from NVIDIA/ATI would be nice if feasible.

I believe you're planning to include Open Office in the release- does
that include acroread as well?

I realize that this can get into an open-ended laundry list but inclusion of
any of these and some others in the release would help if it's feasible.

                                       Thanks,

                                              Alex
