With the soon-to-be-released installer, I plan to install an smp kernel
by default on any machine which can use it, and as of 9.4.45 that will be
supported by the release for PUBLIC=true machines.
So far as I know this is reasonably stable and usable. (With one
exception, display drivers, that I'm looking at now.) Also, the next
iteration of cluster hardware is a dual-core configuration, so the time
has clearly come.
Any comments/concerns/objections?
