Meeting Notes 6/6 and 6/13

daemon@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (Mike Barker)
Mon Jun 17 23:52:32 1996

From: "Mike Barker" <mbarker@MIT.EDU>
To: release-team@MIT.EDU
Date: Mon, 17 Jun 1996 23:52:28 EDT

6/6:

1. Solaris 2.4
a. We reviewed the testers list briefly. No major holdups.
b. Miki asked that we consider the approach to patches for
solaris. Her recommendation is
- original vendor + recommended, security, and third-party
needed patches only be used to build pack
- during testing and release, serious problems only be
added
- installpatch is slow, and does not correctly apply
hardlinks. Sun has fixed the earlier tailoring to
individual patches.
- discussion of use of a library and packageadd
- matter taken offline for detailed design
c. AUTOUPDATE
- added testing flag. Documented in getcluster manpage
- basically will provide correct handling of major OS
version changes, once they put new handling out. So,
there will be one "patch release" of 7.7 needed before
doing 8.0 release.
- see Greg's notes for more details
d. Early date: sun only planned to go out night of 17
e. Early documents: Kevin will have documents and posters
f. AFS 2.4 3.4a applications need testing!
2. IRIX 5.3
a. Configuration is 150PC, 1 gig, 64 Megabyte memory, XGE24
b. Mark has tracked down the missing help files, and they
were deliberately removed by SGI
