It seems that this didn't actually happen:
grobda.mit.edu# update_ws
No new version is available.
[~ vinegar-pot]% tail -1
/afs/athena.mit.edu/system/rhlinux/control/control-current
9.4.32 control/list-9.4.32 control/upgrade-9.4.32
(I ended up forcing grobda.mit.edu to upgrade by creating an appropriate
/etc/athena/cluster, since now happened to be a convenient time to update
it.)
