If you decide to go to beta test next week and want to send email to
everyone, I'll tell you what I would do. You folks, can, of course, do
whatever you want.

In the release locker there are a couple of interesting files for R8.0.
One is the list of machines & contacts for beta suns
(testers/sun.contacts), and the other is the instructions for updating a
workstation (R8.0/update_instructions). I use a dumb perl program that
parses the contact information and sends the instructions to everyone.
This isn't necessary, but does add the name(s) of the workstations to
the email.

Someone needs to check the update instructions and add in a date,
indicated by ?? and XXXX, respectively. It should be obvious, and the
only complication I can imagine has to do with how the beta packs are
configured. (That's coming in my next message.)

So, you can just remove the _DATA_ line from the update instructions and
send it to everyone in the contact list, or you can use the dumb perl
program by doing:

	add dot
	attach release
	cd /mit/release
	email -m R8.0/update_instructions -da testers/sun.contacts \
-from $USER -subject "Athena 8.0 Friendly Test"
