After discussions yesterday and today (thanks, jhawk, Dot, Carla,
Craig, Greg, Bill, Naomi, and probably others...), I think our best
approach is:

1. We should leave support for mime in mh. I.e., the current build
(for 8.0) is correct.

2. We should disable mime operation by default. E.g.,

setenv NOMHNPROC 0

seems to put mh back into a "non-mime" state. This can be probably be
done in a global fashion.

3. We should document and publicize that mime support is provided.
This should include instructions for enabling it along with warnings
about the default mhn handling (e.g., by default mhn will try to print
postscript segments.)

We should indicate that we are interested in providing more support
for use of this option, but we need to gain experience in setting it
up and its operational use.

(should we set up a mailing list? for discussion, etc.?)
