Alpha and Beta in this schedule have no direct correlation to the
traditional friendly (or beta) and early (or staff) test cycles.
Rather, they are stages in the release cycle which are described by
Mike's documents.  The things we think of as friendly and early test
come between the above stages labeled "beta" and "release", or possibly
constitute the actual release part.
