I finally discovered why some students have problems getting FrameMaker
licenses on SGIs. It turns out that SGIs have the same problem that
Suns have with RPC program numbers staying registered between logins.
(The program which registered the number exists, but the number stay
registered to the previous FrameMaker user.) Unfortunately, I don't
think that we can apply the same fix that we did on the Suns.

For now, taking effect this evening, when someone tries to start Frame
on a "broken" SGI, they'll get a message that explains how to fix the
problem. Frame will *not* start in demo mode; it won't start at all, as
some people seem to ignore the message and proceed to make document
changes which can't be saved.

The fix does require root priviledges and consists of typing the command

	/usr/etc/rpcinfo -d 300214 1

I would like to provide a better and user-invisible fix soon, but hopefully
this will at least prevent people from losing work.

Finally, at the end of this message is the text that users see when
Frame has problems. Feel free to send me any comments or suggestions
about the text. And if anyone knows how to un-register an RPC program
number as an ordinary user, let me know asap.

Thanks,

			  ** PROBLEM ALERT **

There is a FrameMaker bug on Silicon Graphics Indys where Frame fails to
get a license and runs only in demo mode. We are working on providing a
fix for this bug, but until it is available, you may have need to "fix"
an SGI before you can use save documents in Frame

You will see this message each time you try to run Frame on a broken
SGI.

To fix the problem, you must first become root. If this is a public
workstation, you can find out the root password by typing the command

	athena% tellme root

Once you have the root password, become root by typing

	athena% su - root
	Password:

and entering the root password. The prompt will change into the
hostname of your workstation followed by a pound sign (#).

To fix the problem, simply type

	athena# /usr/etc/rpcinfo -d 300214 1
	athena# exit

You will now be able to start FrameMaker and save your files.
