1. Solaris
As far as we know, Bob will be the new Solaris platform expert, with
Garry advising.
We will proceed with the pkgadd project (installing Athena software
with pkgadd instead of track), with Bob doing most of the work. The
project will need to change four different things:
* The build
* Installing
* Updating
* Verification (including regenerating stats for a patch release)
2. Linux
Bill is 75% confident that we will license RHEL. We think that SuSE
is probably the best fallback if RHEL falls through, though it would
be unfortunate if we switched to SuSE for one release and then back to
Red Hat the next year.
We will proceed with development using RHEL for now.
3. Upgrade plans for 9.3
We decided on the following upgrades:
Evolution Greg
xscreensaver Greg
GNOME Greg (zenity, nautilus, patch updates; probably not 2.4)
Kerberos Garry
OpenAFS Garry
OpenSSL Garry
Emacs Garry
Perl Garry
gcc As time permits
kermit If Garry is sufficiently bored
We plan to put Nautilus in the default login and move the initial
xterm to the lower right of the screen.
4. Disconnected operation
Andrew had some questions about how ifplugd should be integrated. We
decided that the NETDEV rc.conf setting should be expanded to include
a list of addresses on machines using DHCP; when DISCONNECTABLE is
set, these addresses will be set ONBOOT=false and administered with
ifplugd. (syncconf will be changed so that if you turn of
DISCONNECTABLE, it will trigger HOSTADDR, which will rewrite the
interface files with ONBOOT=true again.)
5. Status
Submitted separately.
