towards the end of the memo, in the part about
-If you want to take the update but still keep the ethernet driver private--
add:
5. edit /var/server/.private (create one if not)
chmod 600 /devices/pseudo/clone@0:le
6. chmod 700 /var/server/.private
These two steps will keep the ethernet driver private during updates.
Note that if you do this, you will need to repeat the process (steps
1-6) whenever there is a new installation on your machine.
