The following has come into Software Suggestions. I'm not sure if
it something that would be useful here at Athena, but I'll pass it
on for your interest.

I'd like to see the login program have an optional access control list
separate from the NOCREATE mechanism. Right now we are using NOCREATE
on some machines that are multi-user with a restricted list of people
who are allowed to use them. The troubles with this are:
the group file is not dynamically edited when people log in and out,
so it has to be maintained by hand and is always out of date
since people never leave the passwd file the detach -clean function
can't detach lockers that are no longer in use
when accounts are closed they go away from the Hesiod passwd file
and the users can't log in on an ordinary machine; but they can
still log in on a restricted machine until the passwd file is
cleaned up manually
