[Bill asked that I send this so people know the state of things...]
We can't currently do clean Athena Linux installs on the IBM cluster
hardware we're going to buy for 2003-2004, because...
- We never supported 9.1 installs past 9.1.18, due to the mkinitrd bug,
and 9.1.18 doesn't offer a working network driver for this hardware.
- Native 9.2 installs will bugger up /etc/fstab until the recent
athena-ws.rc patch is deployed.
- The current installer media does not support this hardare.
The bits for the new installer media are done, and release is waiting on
submission and review of the associated new installer volume patches; the
timeframe for releasing this is a week at most.
The patch for the fstab problem has only just been checked in and has not
yet been incorporated into a patch release; the timeframe for this is
uncertain, but shouldn't be later than the next regularly scheduled
athena cell patch release, tentatively scheduled for 4 August.
