I'm planning to switch the default Athena Sun cc, CC, f77, f90
compilers to the Forte Developer 7 set later today. These have been
installed for 3-4 months now and I haven't heard any complaints. As
usual, the old compilers will stay around but you'll need to do "add
-f sunsoft_v6.1a" to get them after I make the switch. As before,
libraries have been rearranged to make static linking the default for
libraries that need to be found in the locker.

The main issue I know of is that the f77 script really runs the f95
compiler with certain command-line switches. The new f77 man page says
that "if linking against old f77 libraries, you may need to include
-xlang=f77 on your command line". I haven't run into a situation where
this is necessary in my testing.

Please let me know if you have a problem with making this switch now.

                                                Alex
