We encourage users to run update_ws from a console login as root.
(Meaning: type ^P at the xlogin prompt, log in as root, run update_ws,
then reboot.) Doing it this way minimizes interactions between the
update and running software such as the X server. There is no need to
explicitly run "/etc/athena/update_ws" when you are logged in as root;
that is only necessary if you su to root to run the update, which we do
not recommend.
